I’ve tagged this as a realist photo Simon because my intention is to use the image as a window to show the situation. I would have tagged it expressionist if I had used it to show/illustrate something about me or my feelings.
My – very rough – guide to the tags is as follows:
Realism – photo as window
Formalism – the photo as an object
Expressionism – the photo as an expression of what motivated it
So for example I almost always think of Gursy’s work as formal – the photo as an object – because the form is so strong.
Expressionism, surely? (Same story in Walthamstow – I’m considering some Gursky-esque endless queues outside Sainsbury’s, or Wilco…)
